Abstract
Background: This study was conducted to develop a productivity evaluation technique of Rehmania glutinosa (Gaertn.) Libosch. ex Steud., by comparatively analyzing changes over time using either a destructive or non-destructive method.

Methods and Results: Growth characters were measured every 10 days, and several growth parameters were calculated using leaf area and dry weight. The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) was obtained by a multispectral sensor on an unmanned aerial vehicle. As the growth period progressed, growth characteristics decreased or remained constant after the August month during a high temperature period after the linear increase. The relative growth rate, net assimilation rate, and crop growth rate were 26.6 §·¡¤g?1 ¡¤d?1 , 2.7 g¡¤m?1 ¡¤d?1 and 7.4 g¡¤m?1 ¡¤d?1 , respectively. The NDVI ranged from 0.08 to 0.71 and changed in a pattern similar to the growth characteristics. The NDVI was highly correlated with plant height, dry weight, and leaf area index.
The main growth characteristics affecting NDVI were plant height and fresh weight, with the following relationship was NDVI = -0.0001 + (0.016 ¡¿ plant height) + (0.0002 ¡¿ fresh weight).

Conclusions: The NDVI correlates well with the growth and growth analysis parameters of R. glutinosa and can be considered an adequate index of quantitative growth
